Description

Historic Deputy Badge of Al Capone's Brother (Richard J. Hart) w/ Provenance

Original badge of Deputy Special Officer U.S. Indian Service Richard J Hart. The badge is accompanied by a handwritten penciled note documenting the transfer of the badge starting with its confiscation from Hart (due to disorderly conduct) around 1928 to its subsequent possession by a series of law enforcement officers (all named). The connection of Hart to his brother Al Capone was apparently never recognized as the badge was traded from owner to owner without mention of the Capone name. The note mentions that a photo of Hart (not available here) wearing this badge was also traded along with the badge at one point and that a local newspaper article of the time reported he "had an office in the old Riverside Post Office & Federal Building".  This original note will be provided to the successful bidder along with the badge.

Also, in case you were not familiar with Richard J Hart or "Two Gun Hart" as he became known, there is an entire lore about him in writing and film as the brother of Al Capone.  Richard James Hart - Wikipedia
